Alejandro Madrid (1995, Badajoz). Immersed since childhood in a visual environment shaped by rural folklore and its rituals—a context marked by archival imagery, religious postcards, and obsessively collected family albums.
In 2012, he moved to Madrid and earned a degree in Fine Arts from the Complutense University, drawn to painting and drawing, where he encountered the theatricality and drama of representation in certain classical works.
Over time, he delved into installation as a medium and later into photography, understanding it as a mechanism to explore the power of images and the symbols he saw within them—a stage for investigating beauty and aesthetics as part of an alchemical process.
Rituals are a key part of his current practice, exploring their importance in fostering awareness in an age of image overabundance. He proposes the act of photographing as a conscious act—a dialogue between oneself and the surrounding environment—generating an analytical and reflective gaze through narratives that highlight our position in today’s world.
Through a spiritual lens, his work proposes a way to understand reality and the subconscious, wrapped in metaphysical concerns such as the human experience, soul healing, rituals, or shamanism in the contemporary world.
Currently, his work centers on the image as a form of ritual, exploring the invisible forces that define it (with reference to writers such as Joan Fontcuberta, Roland Barthes, and Byung-Chul Han), and its therapeutic power, from an approach where aesthetics, philosophy, and ancestral cultures coexist.
Professionally, he applies his work to the commercial fields of fashion and advertising, with publications in media such as Fucking Young!, Metal Magazine, Pap, Vanidad, Icon, among others.
He has collaborated with brands including Adidas, Cold Culture, Tous, 93 Sierra Crosses, Trunk Project, Meller, Levi’s, Sony, and Warner.
He is also part of the creative team at the brand Emeerree as a creative and photographer, working on identity and media content.
Additionally, he teaches classes on new technologies and artificial intelligence at IED.
